The Relationship Compass©

Cutting-Edge Relationship Harmony

The Relationship Compass© is an in-depth relationship assessment created for couples in committed relationships and for those considering a long-term commitment or marriage.

Every relationship has areas of natural alignment — and areas where two people see the world differently. The Relationship Compass© helps uncover those misalignments before they become recurring sources of misunderstanding or conflict. By exploring the choices, expectations, priorities, and values that shape your life together, you gain a clearer understanding of where you stand as individuals — and where you are headed as a couple.

Know where you are. Understand where you're going. Navigate the journey together.

Carole’s Perspective

Why I Created the Relationship Compass©

Relationships are not self-perpetuating. They need care.

Relationships are not self-perpetuating. They need care. How to provide that care is the challenge. Personally, as with anything, I believe that being pro-active is always a better position to be in than having to be reactive. When you are pro-active, you are able to be emotionally stable, think clearly, and plan accordingly.

Being proactive in the context of a relationship means identifying areas that could potentially lead to disagreement or conflict and, once identified, mutually and creatively agree upon solutions that would be implemented if and when those misalignments appear — and before they rise to the level of conflict.

Having practiced Family law and mediated family issues for over two decades, I came to see patterns in relationships. Patterns stemming from different points of view about things that matter which inevitably surface in long-term relationships, with or without children.

When I saw the high frequency with which these unresolved misalignments arose and where neglect or denial of them led, I realized there was a way to pre-determine when and how misalignments between spouses or partners would arise and to what degree those misalignments would likely manifest. Once identified, mediation could then provide the way in which two people could be proactive and negotiate, in advance, an agreed upon way to handle misalignments thereby preventing them from escalating to the level of conflict.

I compiled all my observations from those 20 years of practice and created The Relationship Compass©. It’s an assessment of where two people are in alignment and misalignment. Generally, couples know where they align. It’s the misalignments that get tricky and it’s the unknown misalignments that can be the cause of conflict.

The Relationship Compass© assessment, through specifically designed questions, explores in depth a variety of areas within a relationship, such as finances, living environments, intimacy, vacations, in-laws, child rearing, social outings, hobbies, and friendships just to name a few. An evaluation and scaling of the individual answers allow me to identify a couple’s misalignments and evaluate to what degree those misalignments exist.

The Relationship Compass© Report then highlights and details the areas of disagreement and their degree, which then allows the couple to proactively negotiate a solution in advance of the problem!

The Relationship Compass© and its findings empower both people in a relationship, supports the long-term health of the relationship, and is the best proactive step you can take in creating a peaceful and harmonious future together.

How does it work?

Complete it separately. Discover together.

The Relationship Compass© is completed independently by both parties online. Each of you moves through the assessment privately and at your own pace, answering detailed questions about the many areas of life where you may share similar—or different—expectations. There are no right or wrong answers; this is not a test. Completing it separately allows each person to answer from their own perspective without being influenced by their partner’s responses.

The goal is not to tell you what choices to make. It is to help you understand the choices that exist — and navigate them together.

About the Compass

What to expect from the assessment, findings report, and optional advisory sessions.

Is the Relationship Compass© a quiz or a test?

The Relationship Compass© is not a test! There are no right or wrong answers. It is an in-depth relationship assessment. The Compass not only confirms where you both align, but also identifies where subtle but meaningful misalignments exist. Once misalignments are identified and discussed, solutions are then created in advance for when those misalignments arise in the future. This allows you to have the conversations worth having now rather than being surprised and unprepared later.

Do we answer together or separately?

Each of you receives the Compass at your separate email addresses. It comes as a fillable PDF. You complete it online, independently, and at your own pace. The key to responding separately is that it allows you both to focus only on your own thoughts and preferences, thereby making the analysis and evaluation of your combined answers authentic and true to who you are as individuals seeking harmony in a long-term relationship.

What do we receive after completing it?

The Relationship Compass© Findings Report is an in-depth analysis highlighting significant areas of alignment, misalignment, and topics that may benefit from further conversation, along with a professional recommendation for how that can be accomplished.

Can Carole be of further assistance once we receive our findings?

Yes. Carole spent two decades mediating personal and professional relationships. The Relationship Compass© + Relationship Advisory package includes two private, 2-hour sessions with Carole—in person, by phone, or on Zoom. You may also take your Findings Report to any other trained mediator or counselor of your choosing.
